Tasting Notes:
This is probably typical for what most people think of when they hear the word Beaujolais. It's a transparent garnet color and very light in the glass. The aromas are primarily red fruit, with just a hint of minerals in the back. On the palate, the red fruit is juicy and silky, with a great acid and a short mineral finish. This is not transcendent, but it's very quaffable. It's also a very interesting wine, and at $9 a steal.

Tasting Notes:
This was wine number two for the farewell dinner. It was paired with a pate de campagne that I worked into a slider. This was my favorite wine of the night, and a great example of Cru Beaujolais. The nose was very Burgundian. You could honestly slide this into a pinot tasting, and it wouldn't stand out. There is an earthieness that works well with the raspberry and plum aromas and that touch of spice that I love. In the mouth the fruit hits your first with an acid backbone that just holds everything together wonderfully. It's medium bodied and a joy to drink. The tannins are nice and silky, and the finish has a great spice to it.

Tasting Notes:
It's been a year since I last tasted this, and I wanted to see what had happened with it. I still love the wine, that much is certain.
The color and nose are not much changed from before. They are both still outstanding. What I did notice though was a softening of the tannins. It was slightly harsh before but is better integrated now (although not perfect). I imagine a bit more time would make this wine even better.

Tasting Notes:
We were eating steak frites the night before Kathrine was leaving for a trip to LA. A simple bistro meal deserves a good bistro wine, and Beaujolais usually fits that bill. It's a toss up between Cru Beaujolais and Loire Valley red as to my favorite French wines right now. I may love a great Burgundy or a spectacular Southern Rhone, but they just are priced out of my range most of the time. This wine is the perfect example of a wine that delivers much more than it's price.
The wine was a beautiful translucent ruby red in the glass. The nose was red fruit, a touch of fig, and earth. In the mouth it was silky and fairly light. Tons of fruit, mostly red exploded on the palate with an acidity that was juicy and mouth watering. There was a fairly intense spice and tannins that were quite grippy on the finish.
I finished the bottle off alone on the second night and it had actually evolved quite a bit. There was even more earth on the nose, the red fruit taste had dulled softly leaving more of a creme de cassis flavor. The tannins had also softened a bit leaving the wine even more integrated and balanced. I'm going to let the other bottle I have sit for a while and see how it does later.

Tasting Notes:
We were having a French bistro inspired meal of fries and French onion soup, so why not a French bistro wine?
In the glass this is a dark garnet color with deep purple highlights around the edge. The aroma was very pleasing with bright read fruits dominating. There was also a hint of smoke and a tiny bit of banana peel, and a slight spiciness.
On the first taste the bright red fruits take over. It's very concentrated and tasty. Raspberry and Cranberry are the two dominate tastes, but they give way to a slight cinnamon taste on the mid palate. The spiciness continues on the long finish with velvety tannins.
This wine is great now. Amazing in fact. It actually might be better with a bit of age. It felt like it still might be slightly closed.

Tasting Notes:
I've been looking for an excuse to drink more Beaujolais. I figured a smoked chicken and a nice salad would be the right time.
It's a beautiful color in the glass a translucent deep garnet. At first the nose was pretty closed. You could smell a metallic mineral note and a bit of fruit. After about 15 minutes the wine had really opened up and the mineral had faded slightly to reveal blackberries and cranberry. I could also detect just a hint of banana. The wine is quite light palate There is a nice balance berry fruit with a good acidity and soft tannins. As you drink more of it an earthy flavor and minerality begins to apear under the fruit.

Tasting Notes:
This was the first bottle of wine that I purchased from
Garagiste. I had been on the mailing list for a few days, and all the offers had been way out of my league. I thought perhaps they only sold very high end wine, so when I saw this offered at less than $15, I jumped at it. Little did I know that there would be plenty of offers in my price range to come. After tasting this though, I'm glad that I jumped on two when I did.
I am a fan of Beaujolais. On restaurant wine lists, it's usually a great purchase because it compliments most food (like pinot noir) but at the village level is quite affordable (not like pinot noir). I'd never had a cru level Beaujolais before so I was excited about this. Especially since this price doesn't even get you a bourgogne rouge.
In the glass it was a beautiful ruby color becoming more violet towards the center of the glass. The nose was wonderful. It was a mixture of ripe cherry, raspberry, and flowers. I could just sit and smell the wine. The nose got even better after it had been opened for an hour.
On the first taste the fruit explodes into the mouth. It was a mouth watering mixture of tart cherries and raspberries. This gave way to a nice acid that cut through the fruit and the tannins. The tannins surprised me. I wasn't expecting them to be so prevalent, but they lingered on for the long finish mingling with the acid and the taste of raisin that suddenly appeared.
This wine has really got be excited about cru level Beaujolais, I plan on buying more in the future. I still have another bottle of this, but I think I may save it. I have a feeling this wine might become even better after a year or two in the bottle.
