Tasting Notes:
Of the all the aged riesling that Garagiste sold from this producer, so far this is my favorite. In the glass it's a deep dark golden color. The nose is very expressive of flowers, fruit, honey, and just a touch of kerosene. Once in the mouth it explodes in to complex flavors that range from creamy to tart with a minerally and earthy component. There is just a little diesel fuel taste but plenty of apples, green grapes, and clover honey. The finish is super long.
I think the wine might have been even better on the second day. I wish I had about 20 more bottles of this.

Tasting Notes:
This is another example of why I generally don't care much for German Gewurztraminer. When done right gewurz is one of my favorite wines, but to me even slight flaws are readily apparent in the wine.
This had the right color and nose. But in the mouth is where it started to fall apart. It was fairly thick and oily, and had the lychee and rose petal flavors. However, the sweetness was a little to cloying with not enough acid to counter the sugar. The spiciness was there on the end, but remained on the finish as a slightly bitter note. Not a bad wine, but not something I'd care to drink again.

Tasting Notes:
This is the second aged riesling from this producer that I've recently had. This was from the same vintage and vineyard as the last, so I was quite curious to see how it would stack up.
In the glass it had the same beautiful golden color, but seemed a bit thicker. The nose of the wine was similar: citrus zests, gasoline, and orange blossom. On the palate though, it was a different beast. Whereas the kabinett was filled with racy acidity and lemon flavors; this wine was rooted in apple, pear and pineapple tastes. The acidity was still there, but the honey component was much stronger. The finish was even longer with tons of floral flavors and a hint of gasoline that lingered.

Tasting Notes:
This is a yummy German Riesling. It's a beautiful deep golden in the glass, the only indication of its age. Its nose was quite closed and took a while of being open to really stand out. The nose had scents of lemon zest, orange blossom, and hints of gasoline. In the mouth the acidity was amazing and mouth watering with flavors of Meyer Lemons and honey. The finish was long with lots of mineral and a bit of gasoline flavor.

Tasting Notes:
Dornfelder is a grape I don't know very well. It is a cross between helfensteiner and heroldrebe. Helfensteiner is a cross between pinot noir and schiava, while heroldrebe is is a cross between limberger and portugieser.
Kathrine picked this wine out at a tasting. I decided to open it during our heat wave because I wanted a red wine, but it was too hot to drink most of them. This is low in alcohol and can be drunk very cool.
This wine is very dark purple in color. Almost inky. You'd think from the color that it's going to be heavy, but it actually is quite light. It's very fruity in the mouth. A little bit of strawberry and a lot of grape flavor. It's an odd wine because the residual sugar level makes it taste like a port, and it's got the same fruity flavor, but the alcohol is very low. Not a bad summer quaffer, but not something I'll buy again.

Best riesling I've had so far. I bought this at a whim from
Maple Leaf Wine Cellars. How can you pass up an aged German riesling from a good producer for this price?
In the glass the wine was a very pale straw color. I was expecting it to be darker, but it still looked young. The nose was fairly muted. I could smell crisp apple and a hint of mineral, almost like rain on rocks. In the mouth, the flavor of the wine just explodes. It still tastes young and full of fruit, and extremely complex. At first I felt like I was eating a juicy peach or apricot, as the fruit and sweetness of the wine dominated. But then the acidity and lemon lime taste cuts right through the sweetness creating a great balance. It ends with an effervescent mouth watering quality that just makes you want to drink more. As the finish goes on and on the fruit slowly gives way to a slatey quality that is not at all unpleasant.

Tasting Notes:
I'd never seen a gewurztraminer from Germany before, and since I have yet to find a domestic one that I like a whole lot, and the ones from Alsace tend to be pricey, I picked this up.
I opened it on a Saturday night to accompany a spice, pungent Thai laarb. On the nose the wine had quite a bit of floral characteristics. It unmistakably smelled like gewurztraminer. On the palate it was extremely full bodied for a white wine. It had almost an oily texture. The taste was classic gewurz, lots of litchi. It was much sweeter than Alsatian wines though. I would have preferred wither a bit more acid, or a little less sugar. The sweetness did not stick around on the finish however. At the end I got the distinct taste of cloves and nutmeg.
At this price a great wine. Especially if you prefer your whites off-dry (as Kathrine does).
